Community Medical Services is a rapidly growing company with room for advancement. We currently have several locations in four states that provide substance use disorder and behavioral services in the form of medication assisted treatment to clients with opioid use disorder.

We enjoy helping others and working together on an interdisciplinary team and are inspired to add team members who can bring their individual skills and grow within the company. This is a busy environment with expanding clinics within a growing agency. We must have compassionate and organized clinicians who can roll up their sleeves and help our clients. Medication Assisted Treatment is science and policy driven, and this provides a good structure for what we do, and yet as a counselor you will utilize best practices and your clinical judgment to help clients reach their goals in conjunction with our entire team.


In this position you will:

  • maintain in-person productivity with clients, providing counseling, at a minimum of 60% of your time,
  • be responsible for managing assigned caseload under the supervision of the Clinic Manager and Clinical Coordinator,
  • be responsible for providing substance use disorder counseling, support, and education services to assigned clients,
  • Keep organized and detailed documentation such as treatment plans, intake assessments and annual behavioral health assessments,
  • Be passionate about medication assisted treatment for opioid use disorder, and about working in the field of substance use counseling

  • Do I make people feel that I want to help them, even when I can't sometimes give them what they want? 
  • Do I know something about substance use disorder counseling , in particular Medication Assisted Treatment? 
  • Do I know something about CBT, REBT, SMART Recovery, evidence-based practices ?
  • When I have an issue at work, with a job duty, a co-worker, my supervisor, do I know how to be constructive and positive when I speak up about it?
  • Do I know how to speak up in the right way, versus gossiping?
  • Do I take ownership of my mistakes?
  • Do I stay calm in stressful situations?
  • Am I tolerant of diversity , and people who are very different from myself?
  • Do I agree with the following statement: Rehabilitation should be the primary solution versus incarceration for substance use disorder.


Counselor Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field.
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of patience and a non-judgemental attitude
  • A knowledge of best practices for de-escalation
  • Must be relentlessly passionate about making a positive impact on the world and passionate about being a part of our mission of treating individuals who are struggling with behavioral health and substance abuse issues 

Counselor Preferred Qualifications:

  • Case Management and/or substance abuse counseling experience
  • Independent or Associate level license in Behavioral Health (i.e. LASAC, LISAC, LAC, LPC, LAMFT, LMSW, LCSW)
  • Experience in behavioral health and/or substance use disorder counseling
  • Experience with DCS, CPS/has a background in child wellfare and/or with pregnant and post-partum women
  • Experience with SMI population/mental health counseling experience
